About the Caribbean STEM Coaching Club’s “People Helping People” Problem Solving Sessions

The Caribbean STEM Coaching Club (“CSCC”)

The CSCC is a joint venture between the social enterprise, Future Think, the Caribbean Diaspora for Science, Technology & Innovation (UK) and the British Foundation of the University of the West Indies.

The CSCC was set up in 2015 with a remit to equip Caribbean families in the UK with the skills and know how to thrive in a fast changing, more technologically sophisticated and globally interconnected world of work.

The CSCC was privileged to attract solid support and sponsorship from the Barbados High Commission and one of the leading independent schools in the country. We were also fortunate enough to attract a wealth of strategically placed professionals with deep expertise across several industry sectors.

It has been a wonderful five years of learning together, up-skilling together and preparing together for the new and different industries and job opportunities emerging here in the UK and globally.

Impact of COVID-19

The effect of COVID-19 was to turbocharge many of the economic and consumer trends we were seeing – in particular, more sophisticated technologies, more automation of jobs, more remote working/learning, and a rapid rise in e-commerce .

One of the sobering realities facing us all is the likelihood of a recession the likes of which we have not seen for 80 years. Unemployment is expected to be widespread and the economic downturn is expected to have a disproportionate impact on BAME individuals, businesses and charities.

People Helping People Problem Solving

The CSCC pivoted very quickly in response to COVID-19. We now run “People Helping People” Problem Solving  discussions via ZOOM to help individuals and organisations in our community to survive this crisis. We tap into our rich network of professionals to bring together small groups of problem solvers in tightly facilitated one-hour sessions. We do not promise to solve problems in one hour. But we do promise to deliver “out of the box” thinking and creative brainstorming so that individuals/organisations can go away with new and potentially viable options to explore.
